The Story Behind LUSSO

I'm sure you have certain dates etched in your mind: Birthdays, anniversaries and other life milestones. Me too. February 8, 2003 for example is the day my years of frustration with different forms of travel finally prompted me to take action.

Hotel vacations had become increasingly expensive, particularly as our family grew and we needed multiple rooms. We tried renting but invariably the experience fell short of our expectations. Property standards were disappointing. Amenities were minimal. And, those first few hours at the property were always a chore (finding a nearby grocery store, discovering what was lacking or not functioning in the house). The last thing you need after hours of travel!

We knew there had to be a better way to vacation. For us, it wasn't owning a vacation home. The cost wouldn't be commensurate with our use. We also didn't want the hassles of maintenance nor be limited to one destination. A fractional interest in a resort property held some appeal from the cost and convenience side but the variety of destinations was just not there.

We wanted the best of all worlds. Our perfect solution would look something like this:

• Spacious, family-friendly luxury homes world-wide, consistently furnished and equipped to the highest standards.

• Included amenities addressing the needs of our entire party, regardless of age (full complement of baby equipment, video game consoles, books, board games, bicycles, beach toys, etc.).

• What I call "luggage-reducing" features such as having golf clubs at the home, car seats for all ages, etc. - anything to reduce the load and improve the travel experience.

• Concierge services to help plan our trip, prepare the home for our arrival (groceries pre-stocked, please!) and to be on call 24/7 during our stay.

• Being met at the airport and having a luxury vehicle waiting for us at the property. (No more hauling luggage from baggage claim to the rental car counter and standing in line.)

• And, of course, the cost would have to make sense with our usage, as well as the future ability to realize our initial outlay should we so wish.

Well, I took our "blueprint" and decided that since it didn't exist I would create it. The LUSSO Collection is a members-only, luxury destination club providing all of the above and more. Already, more than 100 members are enjoying LUSSO.
